Alex Bala
Alexander Bala is a Polish-American architectural historian and theorist, based in Warsaw. He is currently a PhD candidate in architectural history at the University of Texas at Austin.
Bala holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech and a Master of Arts in Architectural History from UT Austin. He has been a Fulbright research fellow, a Visegrád research fellow at the Vera and Donald Blinken Open Society Archives of the Central European University in Budapest, and an American Councils Title VIII research fellow in Warsaw.
Bala’s doctoral dissertation compares the spatial concept of Polish architect Oskar Hansen’s theory of the Open Form with that of Hansen’s colleague at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, Jerzy Sołtan, a former associate of Le Corbusier. His writings have been published in anthologies published by Routledge, as well as in journals such as Fabrications, the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, Architektúra & Urbanizmus, H-SHERA, and Drawing Matter. Bala has lectured throughout the United States and Europe.
