Austin Troy

Austin Troy is a professor of urban and regional planning and director of the Presidential Initiative on Urban and Place-Based Research at the University of Colorado at Denver.

His research looks at the interface of human and natural systems in urban and suburban environments, and makes use of spatial analysis methods, including Geographic Information Systems, spatial statistics, econometrics, and dynamic modeling; Troy also conducts research on the development of these methods.

Troy is principal and co-founder of the environmental consultanct Spatial Informatics Group, LLC. He is also a fellow of the Gund Institute of Ecological Economics and co-principal investigator of the Baltimore Ecosystem Study, one of the National Science Foundation’s two urban Long-Term Ecological Research projects. He served for four years as a planning commissioner for the city of Burlington, VT. He is the author of The Very Hungry City, published in 2012, and numerous articles.
