Jovan Scott Lewis

Jovan Scott Lewis is a professor and chair of geography at the University of California, Berkeley, where he also holds the Haas Distinguished Chair in Economic Disparities. His work interrogates the intersections of race, geography, Caribbean Studies, and economic inequality, with a particular focus on the legacies of colonialism and frameworks for state redress. He is the author of Scammer’s Yard (2020) and Violent Utopia (2022), and co-editor of The Black Geographic (2023). Jovan was a governor-appointed member of the California Reparations Taskforce from 2021 to 2023.
