Andrea Jenkins

Andrea Jenkins, educator, poet, artist, and activist, works as the Oral Historian for the Transgender Oral History Project at the University of Minnesota. She is the author of three books: Tributaries: Poems Celebrating Black HistoryPieces of A Scream, and her latest, The T is Not Silent: New and Selected Poems (Purple Lioness Productions, 2015).

She has received many fellowships and awards, including a Bush Fellowship, the Many Voices Fellowship at the Playwrights’ Center, The Cultural Community Leadership Institute Fellowship through Intermedia Arts, and a Givens Foundation Fellowship for Black Writers. Her work has been collected in several anthologies, including A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota and Blues Vision: African American Writing in Minnesota. In 2015, she was named Grand Marshal of the Twin Cities Pride Parade.
