Carrie Lowry Schuettpelz

Carrie Lowry Schuettpelz is an enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. Her debut nonfiction book, The Indian Card (Flatiron) was one of The New Yorker’s top books of 2024, and received a Whiting Creative Nonfiction Grant. She teaches public policy at the University of Iowa, where she is also the Director of the Native Policy Lab, a project funded by the Mellon Foundation.
