Catherine Gudis

Catherine Gudis is an associate professor of history and director of public history at the University of California, Riverside. She is the author of Buyways: Billboards, Automobiles, and the American Cultural Landscape and editor of Cultures of Commerce: Representations of Business in America, Helter Skelter: LA Art in the 1990s, and A Forest of Signs: Art and the Crisis of Representation. For 20 years she has worked as an exhibitions curator and consultant, with socially engaged art collectives, and in historic preservation. A Scholar at the Getty Research Institute in 2011-2012, she is working on a book entitled Curating the City: The Framing of Los Angeles.
