Charles "Talib" Brooks

Charles “Talib” Brooks has written for the San Quentin News and San Francisco Bay View Newspaper, and has appeared on the podcast Ear Hustle; he is a longtime member of the “Brothers in Pen” writing group sponsored by the William James Association at San Quentin State Prison in northern California. Brooks has also produced several coloring books for children, including one about Black history from ancient Egypt to the Civil Rights Movement (1994) and, in collaboration with Hakim Adkins, the Mr. President Educational Coloring Book (2008) about Barack Obama. He is at work on a manuscript titled Baghdad California: A Memoir of Surviving the War on Drugs, and (with Osbun Walton), a book of short stories for young adults titled Don’t Look Back.
