Charlie Cannon

Charlie Cannon is an Associate Professor of Industrial Design at the Rhode Island School of Design. At RISD, Charlie helped found the Innovation Studio to explore solutions to complex problems through interdisciplinary collaboration. The Innovation Studio is a springboard for further research, and projects emerging from the studio have been supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Rhode Island Renewable Energy Fund, and the RISD Research Foundation. In 2008 the Studio initiated Partly Sunny: Designs to Change the Forecast.

In addition to his work at RISD, Charlie spent four years as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Urban Design at Columbia University. He is contributing editor to Constellations: Constructing Urban Design Practices (Columbia University Press, 2007). Cannon is also co-founder of LOCAL Architecture Research Design, a design firm that focuses on projects that develop and sustain local communities.

He holds a BA in Anthropology from Wesleyan University and a Masters of Architecture from Harvard University.
