Diane Jones Allen

Diane Jones Allen, DEng., PLA, FASLA, is professor and director of landscape architecture at University of Texas at Arlington. She is a principal with DesignJones, which received the 2016 American Society of Landscape Architects Community Service Award.

Diane was a member of one of the cross-disciplinary teams that won the 2020 SOM Foundation Research Prize focused on social justice in urban contexts. She was a 2021–2022 fellow in Garden and Landscape Studies at Dumbarton Oaks, where she undertook research on the history of the maroons in coastal Louisiana. Her research and practice are situated at the intersection of environmental justice, identity, and sustainability in cultural landscapes; she is author of Lost in the Transit Desert: Race, Transit Access, and Suburban Form (Routledge, 2017). In 2017, she served on the ASLA Blue Ribbon Panel on Climate Change and Resiliency, and currently serves on ASLA’s Climate Task Force.
