Futurefarmers
Futurefarmers is an international working group of artists, architects, computer programmers, farmers, writers, and anthropologists who form collaborative constellations based on the context of a given project. Amy Franceschini and Michael Swaine have collaborated as Futurefarmers since 1998.
Founded in San Francisco in 1994 and now based in Ghent, Futurefarmers’ practice aims to cultivate public life in place. Their process-led approach invites materials and communities to arrive and intersect at a specific site or situation. Futurefarmers’ work was featured in a 2011 solo exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and in group exhibitions at the New York Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Warsaw Museum of Modern Art, and the Venice, Sharjah, and Taipei Biennales. As a collective, they’ve published A Variation on Powers of Ten (Sternberg Press, 2012), and For Want of a Nail (MIT Press, 2018).
