Jeffrey Hou
Jeffrey Hou is a professor of landscape architecture at the University of Washington, Seattle, where he directs the Urban Commons Lab.
His work focuses on engaging marginalized communities and citizens through community design, design activism and cross-cultural learning. Recent publications include Design as Democracy: Techniques for Collective Creativity (2017); Messy Urbanism: Understanding the “Other” Cities of Asia (2016); and Now Urbanism: The Future City is Here (2015). Hou is also the editor of Insurgent Public Space: Guerrilla Urbanism and the Remaking of Contemporary Cities (2010) and coauthor of Greening Cities, Growing Communities: Learning from Urban Community Gardens in Seattle (2009), which received the Great Places Book Award from Environmental Design Research Association in 2010 and 2012.
