Matthew Jordan-Miller Kenyatta

Matthew Jordan-Miller Kenyatta, or Dr. Matt, is Director and Curator of Temple Contemporary at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture, where he teaches and curates work on placemaking, taste, and urban change. His project Mapping Hidden Genius builds on his role as a 21st Century Preservation Fellow with the U.S. Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. His forthcoming book, Black Urbanism: Palms Growing in Concrete (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2026), explores how South Los Angeles emerged and remains a contemporary cultural mecca. His concepts of “Afrotechtonics” and “Blacklighting” appear in The Black Geographic (Duke University Press), Just Urban Design (MIT Press), and JAPA. He also serves as a Philadelphia Art Commissioner.
