Ray Gastil

Ray Gastil is a city planner and urban designer whose work focuses on waterfronts, campuses, large-scale mixed-use projects and public spaces. Recently he has keynoted the InnoAsia Smart City Conference in Hong Kong, served on the jury for AIA NY Urban Design Honor Awards, and he is guest editing a forthcoming special feature on “The Good Life Reconsidered” for ARCADE. He is a member of the affiliate faculty of the College of Built Environments at the University of Washington in Seattle. Gastil served as city planning director for Seattle and city planning director, Manhattan, in New York City, where he was the founding director of Van Alen Institute.
