S Topiary Landberg
S Topiary Landberg is Managing Editor of Places.
Topiary is an interdisciplinary media artist, writer, and curator. Her research, creative practice, and writing focus on documentary and experimental media related to environmentalism, urban studies, film, and geography. From 2018 to 2020, she was the Mellon Curatorial Fellow at the Oakland Museum of California, where she produced the Dorothea Lange Digital Archive. Her writing has been published in Camera Obscura, Film Quarterly, Millennium Film Journal, Journal of Cinema and Media Studies, SFMOMA’s Open Space, and Flow, as well as in the anthology Reclaiming Popular Documentary (Indiana University Press, 2021).
Before joining Places in 2022, Topiary taught in the Film & Digital Media Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She has also taught at the School of Visual Arts, CUNY Staten Island, Pratt Institute, and the New School. She is an elected member of the Visual Evidence Governing Council.
